The Hedonic Treadmill (2020)
The Hedonic Treadmill is the new body of work from photographer Christian Michael Filardo. Otherwise known as "Hedonic Adaptation" the hedonic treadmill is the idea that humans always return to a relatively normative state of happiness despite major positive or negative changes in their life. Through this 30 image collection Filardo explores ideas of world building, visual poetics, and the surreal nature of image making via sequencing and curatorial prowess. Enter a world where you feel the same despite everything being a little different.
Taken over a five year span the images in this collection are from all over the domestic United States. Each book is hand vacuum sealed by the artist and contains a metal tag with the book title and an engraved signature from the artist as well. Limited to 100 copies.
"A true saying it is, Desire hath no rest, is infinite in itself, endless, and as one calls it, a perpetual rack, or horse-mill" - Robert Burton
